A Christmas poem

As I write this post, Christmas 2014 is nearly over. But before it disappears I wanted to say how much I look forward to this season. It's the one time of  year generosity and good will seem to be more noticeable. I love that! I also wanted to share a poem I read at church on Christmas eve. Here it is.

I want to share a short rhyming story,
On this Christmas eve night,
About who this Jesus Christ is,
And His transforming love and light.

The Creator born into creation,
The Saviour of all mankind,
light of the world, sin forgiving redeemer,
for a time left Heaven behind.

Not born into a kings palace,
All safe and warm in the lap of luxury,
But a stable with donkeys and oxen,
A true place of humility.

Born to a virgin teenage girl,
By God’s Holy Spirit and His sovereign will,
To fulfill what the Prophets said,
He is “God with us” Immanuel.

His birth was announced by Angels,
Though not at a church with spire and steeple,
But to Shepherds living in the fields,
“good news of great joy for all the people”.

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature,
And in favor with God and men,
Obedient to His Father in Heaven,
Even way back then.

In time he grew to be a man,
And take His rightful place,
Teaching people wherever He went,
Always full of truth and grace.

And now what do I say,
And what story should I tell,
Maybe how He called His Disciples,
Or the woman at the well.

Thanks to Jesus the blind receive sight,
The lame walk and lepers get a cure,
The deaf hear, the dead are raised,
And the good news is preached to the poor.

The climax to His life began,
On the very day,
He got betrayed by a friend,
Arrested and taken away.

At the time His followers,
Thought it all a loss,
But His greatest work happened,
Up on Calvary’s cross.

He got pierced for our transgression,
He was crushed for our sin.
The punishment that brought us peace,
Was upon Him.

Death it could only keep Him,
Just till the third day,
His life returned by God’s resurrection power,
And the stone got rolled away.

He’s the Holy one, the King of Kings,
And His reign will never end,
Yet in Your heart He longs to dwell,
Much closer than any friend.

Now He stands and knocks at the door,
Oh please don’t turn Him away,
After all He is God’s Son Jesus Christ,
And this is His birthday.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Brian
